Day 2 of the Spanish Vocabulary Challenge: Bienvenidos a la Lección del Día 2 – ¡Adioses!

Wondering what the lesson’s title is?

Welcome to Spanish Vocabulary Challenge Day 2’s Lesson – Goodbyes!

There is no ‘easiest way to learn spanish’. There are tips and tricks for learning foreign language vocabulary but you have to do part of the heavy lifting yourself. But there’s nothing to be scared about – the key is practicing a little bit every day so you stay in touch with the language.

These spanish vocabulary drills are here to help you do exactly that!

Yesterday we covered basic greetings, the bread and butter of polite conversation. But what about bringing that discussion to a close? Today we’re exploring spanish vocabulary for saying adioses – goodbyes.

Just as there are nuances to the different ways of saying “hello”, Spanish has a range of expressions for parting ways. Mastering these will allow you to end interactions smoothly.

Palabras (words)
Significados (meanings)

¡Adiós!
aa-di-yos (pronounce ‘d’ like the English word ‘the’)
Goodbye / Bye
Hasta pronto
aastaa prawn-toh (‘t’ has a soft sound)
See you soon
Hasta luego
aastaa looego
See you later
Hasta mañana
aastaa manyaanaa
See you tomorrow
¡Que pases un buen día! / una buena noche!
key paasey un boo-eyn deeya / una boo-eynaa noch-ey
Have a good day / evening!
Encantado / Encantada
eyn-kaan-taa-do / eyn-kaan-taa-daa
Pleased to meet you

Encantado is used when you’re a male saying this.

Encantada is used when you’re a woman saying this.

For example,

Maria: Encantada, Alejandro!

Alejandro: Encantado, Maria!

Notes to remember:

  • Just like greetings, goodbyes often include titles like señor/señora.

Let’s practice with a fill-in-the-blanks exercise:

  1. You’re leaving the office for the day and say to a coworker: “_________”.
  2. You’re about to meet a friend and you call to check where they are. At the end of the call, you say: “________” to say “see you soon”.
  3. Meeting someone at a networking event, how would you tell them you’re pleased to meet them? “________”
  4. Before ending a phone call with your Spanish teacher: “________ mañana.”

¿Listo? – Ready? Check your answers:

  1. Adiós OR Hasta mañana – both will be corrent! You can simply say ‘goodbye’ or ‘see you tomorrow’, isn’t it?
  2. Hasta pronto
  3. Encantado/Encantada
  4. Hasta

Well done! You’ve mastered simple greetings and goodbyes – an excellent foundation for more vocab. Tomorrow, we’ll take up vocabulary related to Family!
