Suggest Any Three Measures Through Which Underemployment in The Agriculture Sector Can be Minimized
- The government can improve irrigation with wells, canals and dams allowing farmers to take up a second crop during the rabi season.
- Expansion of transportation such as rural roads, and storage facilities will employ people in these services as well as help farmers sell their produce more efficiently.
- Access to cheap agricultural credit will allow farmers to purchase seeds, fertilisers, agricultural equipment and pump sets increasing farm yield.
- Mills and industries that process vegetables and agricultural produce can facilitate production of processed goods that can be sold in urban markets. Cold storages can be used to sell produce when prices are higher. These units can employ a large number of people in semi-rural areas.
- Schools can be built to educate many children who work as child labourers. Around 20 lakh jobs can be created in the education sector and many more in the Healthcare sector as doctors, nurses etc.
- Every state has the potential to develop more jobs in industries such as regional crafts, IT and tourism which has the potential to employ 35 lakh people.
- As a shorter term measure, the MGNREGA implemented in 625 districts promises 100 days of employment or compensation with unemployment allowances.
